Same day Mobile purchases for Hotels exceed 60%

If your hotel or resort property’s website isn’t optimized for mobile, you could be losing out on the growing market for same-day bookings.

According to a recent story in USA Today, online travel agencies are introducing a rising number of booking tools and features geared towards people who book a room on the day of their stay.

Who has already gone Mobile?

Since Choice Hotels, International launched their iPhone App and brand new mobile site (, up to 80% of bookings from mobile devices are for same day reservations.

Marriott recently reported that 50% of its same-day bookings came through the mobile channel

Orbitz, not wanting to be left behind, launched their own mobile App today, with a “tonight only” feature. USA Today reported that the last-minute hotel feature will offer discounts of up to 50% off rooms in about 50 potentially pricey cities such as New York, Chicago and London. There will also be “Mobile-Only” deals that users can’t find from their desktop or laptop computers. 65% of Orbitz’s mobile bookings are for the same day.

Priceline is also in the last minute hotel market, but the “tonight only deals” found on this app are getting negative reviews. For example, on Oct. 4, both Tonight-Only Deals and HotelTonight (an App that began offering same-night hotel bookings last year) offered a stay that night for the MCM Eleganté Hotel and Suites in Dallas. The HotelTonight base rate was $10 cheaper. 60% of mobile bookings on Priceline are for the same day and more than 800,000 iPhone users have downloaded Hotel Tonight an app featuring daily hotel deals.
